Google > DNS

I wonder if Google was around when the web was first growing and people where exchanging HOSTS files if there would have been any need for DNS.

Programmer vrs Architect

What is the difference between a Programmer and an Architect?

I've seen good programmers be good architects and I've seen bad programmers be bad architects. But I've not seen bad programmers be good architects although I've seen good programmers be bad architects.

It's a little play on words and logic but basically "Good Programmers" == "Good Architects".

I've been thinking about possible career paths with my eye on "software architect" but based on my logic I must first become a "good programmer".

Thoughts?

Basically I see a "good programmer" as one who can develop an effective solution that is durable enough to handle future changes yet not far out enough to become impractical to develop (Architecture Astronauts). To me that sounds like a task for a software architect.
